We are a Scout association which is located in Hamburg, Germany and we are officially promoted by the Hamburg Authority for Employment, Social, Family Affairs and Integration (BASFI, http://www.hamburg.de/basfi).
We have more than 1000 members (age 9-22 years) which are subdivided in smaller groups of 5-13 people and are guided by a scout leader with an age of 16-22 years. Our guiding principle is “Youth guides Youth”.
Our Scout leaders attended a course to become a youth group leader. This course takes at least 3 weeks and includes topics as Education, Health and Nutrition, Survival and Traveling Skills. Furthermore they have to finish a first-aid-course which is additionally specialized on traveling and care-taking of children.
All our Scout leader and the board of the association are working as volunteers and they own a youth group leader card (Jugendleitercard “Juleica”).
Our Scout activities are based on forming a group of young people and strengthening the community of the group. The members of a group are in the same age and they stay together for a time of 4-6 years. During this time we focus on joint activities including playing, crafting, singing, learning from and with each other.
The established groups go regularly hiking with a tent around the area of Hamburg over the weekend (about once per month). During the summer holidays they travel for 2-3 weeks in European Countries where they discover the nature, foreign countries and new cultures.
